Health and safety

When it comes down to it, nothing matters more than our health and safety. We want students to be safe, so we recommend reading up on Austria and Germany and registering with the State Department in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) before arriving overseas.

Fortunately we operate in relatively safe parts of the world. Vienna has been ranked as having the world's highest quality of living for the past 10 years, and Marburg certainly holds its own as well. Three German cities were among the Top 10 in 2023 , including Frankfurt am Main - just an hour by train from Marburg - placing at #6 in the world.

Nevertheless, it's always better to err on the safe side, so students admitted to Achievement Study Abroad programs are required to demonstrate that they have health insurance before arriving on site.  For students who still need a suitable policy, we can recommend CISI from having worked with them in the past. Marburg students are required by local immigration officials to purchase a German health insurance policy, and we are happy to recommend a German health insurance provider directly. Please ask to be linked to our local contact.
